Weekly thing is my series of quick reflections and plans. It goes out, as expected, at the end of every week. The aim is to use this consistent writing to give myself more grace and more inspiration when progress (in other things) is sluggish.
Hi friends,
Hello from my hotel room, where I’m trying to incorporate some stretches into my nighttime routine! The aim? To delay the onset of my back pain1 over the next few days.
I don’t really feel like writing anything, so this will probably be a short missive.
something i did:
If I take a flight, you’re going to hear about it, because I sincerely do not enjoy flying. Every flight I take where I manage to eat the airplane food and time passes quickly is a gift I don’t take lightly. I’ve been a nauseous and anxious flyer for my entire adult life so this is something I’m constantly working on. This flight, I was rushing to finish a library ebook before it was returned, so thankfully I was essentially busy the entire time.
Recently read: Shades of Grey by Jasper Fforde. The aforementioned library book. This is a repeat read, actually. Since the sequel just came out after a 15 year wait, I wanted to reread the first in the series. It’s as good as any Jasper Fforde book (which, considering he’s my favourite living Science Fiction writer, says a lot), but I forgot how dense it is, so it took a lot longer to finish than I thought.
something i’m doing:
Is a surprise, still, to say that I’m still working on pacing my energy?
That’s one of the reasons I’m working in the stretches; if my body doesn’t get so tired everyday, that’s energy I can then afford to expend.
I’m travelling with my parents for a few days, though, and I forgot how mentally exhausting it is. That’s something I’ll have to take into account and find ways to take more breaks to reset.
something i'm thinking about:
Why do hotel rooms have so little clothes hangers?
something that gave me feelings:
I started saving a “memes that are me” folder on Instagram, and it gives me a lot of joy to share these with you:
(Some of the really funny ones are not the first in the carousel, so I would recommend scrolling!)
something i learned:
There’s a Fortnum & Mason store in Hong Kong! Their fruit tea has been one of my favourites since my parents bought me some from London years ago, and I finally got to go into one of their stores and buy a tin of my Black Tea with Strawberry!
Next on my list is their London flagship store, where they’ve been for 300 years 🥹
See you soon,
Charing
Which as I’ve mentioned before, always happens when I’m travelling and tired
